This ebook describes the student perspective on the current online school system. From assessments to communication, students from the University of Windsor's Office of Open Learning share their thoughts and experiences.

This guide will help you prepare for online learning success by introducing you to the online learning environments. in addition to your role as a learner within them. As you come to understand yourself as an online learner, you will also be introduced to effective learning strategies: time management for online learners, information management, professional communication, and reading strategies.

Learning to Learn Online was created by students to help ease the shift from a traditional classroom setting to an online environment. You will explore a total of six unique chapters that will help you successfully prepare for online learning.

As you come to understand yourself as a self-directed learner, you will also be introduced to effective learning strategies: time management for online learners, information management, professional communication, and reading strategies. Welcome to your online learning journey!

Why Do I Have to Take This Course? A Guide to General Education helps students think about why they take General Education courses and what significance they have, individually and as a program as a whole. It allows students the time to contemplate connections, the potential reasons for developing certain learning outcomes and skills, and the applications to other courses as well as their professional and personal lives. General education is viewed through the lens of what John Lewis called "good, necessary trouble," expanding on how the liberal arts and sciences contribute to understanding and creating change in the world. Sections include stories, research, testimonies and reflections about student success, links to further readings, and activities.

Planning a class schedule is an opportunity for students to take the lead in their educational experience. How a student organizes their class load can affect their overall success when starting college. Organization is an important part of being a successful college student. One important aspect of organization is knowing the important dates for your classes and the college in general and understanding how to budget your time in order to fit your education into your life.

eTextbook format. A free, Open Educational Resource, Blueprint for Success in College and Career is a students' guide for classroom and career success. This text, designed to show how to be successful in college and in career preparation focuses on study skills, time management, career exploration, health, and financial literacy.

This open textbook brings together a variety of resources that guide college students. Communication Essentials for College focuses on fundamental academic skills, including: studying and note taking, writing and researching, using APA style citations, presenting, and working in teams.

A free, Open Educational Resource, Modern Blueprint for College and Career Success is a post pandemic, students' guide for classroom and career success. Covering student success strategies, self-management, career development, health and wellness, self and cultural awareness, social development, and financial literacy, Modern Blueprint includes relevant content for students attending college with an equity perspective.

OpenStax College Success is a comprehensive and contemporary resource that serves First Year Experience, Student Success, and College Transition courses. Developed with the support of hundreds of faculty and coordinators, the book addresses the evolving challenges and opportunities of today’s diverse students. Engagement, self-analysis, personal responsibility, and student support are reflected throughout the material. College Success also includes an array of student surveys and opinion polls, and OpenStax will regularly provide the results to adopting faculty.

Bridges introduces students to a wide range of concepts, institutions, histories, and artifacts of United States college and university life. After discussing these items in easy-to-scan, concise, nuance-free prose, this textbook then offers useful lists, templates for writing and speaking in different discourses and situations, thought-provoking questions and activities for self-study and for classroom work, and pertinent hyperlinks for further information. Bridges is designed to help first-generation, first-year, English language learners, and/or culturally unfamiliarized students more fully and successfully explore their educational environments. By using this book, students will be better prepared for the academic and social challenges of successfully undertaking higher education in English.

Open Textbook Library. Critical Thinking in Academic Research will introduce students to the techniques and principles of critical thinking. However, a commitment to lifelong learning is required for critical thinking, it takes more than a single course or reading a book. In order for students to develop their own arguments, they need to find supporting evidence. This text provides guidance on developing research questions and finding resources to answer the questions.

The key to success in college research is to develop and hone your information literacy skills. These skills will prepare you to find and use information not only for college, but also in the workplace and your personal life. Having strong information literacy skills will make you a more thoughtful and effective consumer and creator of information, and will increase your awareness of and resilience toward the psychological, physiological, and sociological effects of living in a society overloaded with information.

Three pathways for students for students who are currently trying to find some form of balance between their work life, their social life and their studies; some strategies for organizing time while attending colleges; and for those who find themselves studying for exams or doing major projects at the last minute and would like to change that habit.

Seven-page handout. Managing time involves accurately predicting how much time it will take to do a task, and then setting aside that amount of time to complete it. Accurately predicting how long a task will take is usually the most difficult part of time management. Our estimations must also account for unknowns, as well as interruptions or unforeseen problems that cause delays.
