Faculty and Staff Library Resources and Services

This guide gathers resources to assist faculty and staff in using Western's library tools, resources, and services.

Find Books at Western

How can I look to see what books you have?

Please stop by the Learning Commons (2nd floor of the Student Success Center) and browse the collection! Better yet, ask your liaison librarian for a tour.

You can also search or browse our online catalog of print materials.

Borrowing of Materials

Can staff check out materials from the library collection?

YES! We want you to borrow items from us!

Most Western library materials are available to borrow for free, with some special collections (such as reference and course reserves) designated for in-library use only. Western Library items may be borrowed by Western students, faculty, and staff. Community members with a Winding Rivers public library card may also borrow materials from our library collection.

Additional information and policies may be found on the library website under "Borrowing of Materials."

Do you charge fines for returning items late?

Nope. While we appreciate you (and your students) returning materials by the due date, we don't charge overdue fines if the materials are returned in good condition.

Interlibrary Loan Services

What if you don't have what I am seeking?

In addition to Western's library collection, students and staff may request and borrow materials from other libraries. Generally, items that are available in the WISCAT catalog (linked below) may be requested through interlibrary loan.

Delivery of interlibrary items usually takes 1-2 weeks and deliveries only happen twice each week, so planning ahead is crucial.

How do I make an interlibrary loan request?

Make interlibrary loan requests by emailing library@westerntc.edu or speaking with a staff member at the Learning Commons.

Not sure if we can get something for you? Ask! We'll never know until we try.

Book Return

Where do I return the books I borrowed?

We ask that library materials be returned in a timely manner or renewed, but we don't charge fines for items that are returned (even if they're a few days late). Books may be returned in the drop box outside the Student Success Center or in the drop box located inside the entrance to the Learning Commons. Staff and faculty may also place library items in an interdepartment envelope marked "Learning Commons/Library" and drop in the mail.

Need to renew an item?

Email library@westerntc.edu or call 608-785-9142. You can also stop by the Learning Commons and speak with a staff member.
