PrePALS Writing

Providing Closure for Your Paragraph

Closing

How do you know when “enough is enough” — when you have enough information in one paragraph and have to start a new one? It is best to deal with this structural element as part of the revision step in the writing process; however, even during the planning stage, you can look for places where the information shifts in focus, and put tentative paragraph breaks in those places.  Additionally, the last sentence of the paragraph should be in your own words and not a quotation from a source.  It should emphasize the task or topic that was presented in the key sentence of the paragraph.
