It's easier to learn when we are interested in what we are learning! It's easier to read when we're interested in the material! 

Literacy is important and foundational to learning in college. It's a lot easier to read complex material when we enjoy the subject. It's also a lot easier to read complex material when we are regularly reading, discussing, and reflecting on readings that interest us. 

The Learning Commons has created multiple high interest reading group opportunities for students and there is always room for more! Meeting times, books, stories, articles, etc. are arranged by interested students and faculty.  Contact the Learning Commons for more information. 

 

 

 

Reading Group Opportunities

Looking for a reading group/ book circle? 

Current reading group opportunities: 

Parent or Caregiver and child story time and related activities (Fridays 10am, ongoing in the Learning Commons)

Neuro-Spicy Reads: topics related to neurodivergent learning, thinking, and living in social media, news, and in fiction/ entertainment. 

Human Services Reading Topics: close reading and discussing of complicated course material as well as current events or stories related to the field of Human Services and Social Work

Reading for pleasure: For some, this sounds impossible! This group explores short readings on high-interest topics to strengthen skills, boost confidence, and build social connections through reading and discussion. 

Health Sciences: this group will read contemporary articles, novels, and about current health or scientific issues that ease students into medical language by blending it in with interesting topics or stories.
