Your Western Email

Accessing and Logging Into Your Western Email

When you enroll at Western, you automatically get a Western email address. It will include some parts of your name followed by @students.westerntc.edu. It's very important that you read the email that comes to your @students.westerntc.edu account, as that is where Western sends all official communications: bills, campus closure announcements, reminders, and so on. The video below shows you what to do and the directions below also explain the process.

Directions: Log into your Western email.

  1. Open the program called Google Chrome.
  2. Go to westerntc.edu (Western's home page)
  3. Click on "Current Students" in the top row of links.
  4. Click on "Email 🔒".
  5. Enter your whole email address, including your username followed by "@students.westerntc.edu" and click "Next".
  6. Enter your password and click "Sign In".
  7. If you're on your own computer, choose "Yes" when it asks you if you wish to stay signed in. Otherwise, click "No" so no one else using that computer gets into your email.
  8. Congratulations, you're in your Western Email!

Getting Familiar with Email

The best way to get comfortable with your email is to use it. Instructors, advisors, and staff members expect that students check their Western email every day, so it's a good idea to get comfortable with how it works.

Directions: Watch the video below and then practice by exploring your own email account. Look at any unread messages that have been sent to you.

Sending an Email

Sending an email is another important skill in your life as a college student, as you will probably use email to communicate with instructors, college staff, and other students.

Directions: Watch the video below, which introduces how to send an email.

Some Practice Activities

Now that you are familiar with your Western email account, use the following activities to practice and build your skills.

  1. Log into your Western email. Look through the list of any unread email messages and read any that look important.
  2. Send an email to your PrePALS instructor introducing yourself. Include a description of some of your favorite hobbies and any future goals that you may have.
  3. Try to find the Calendar feature. Create a schedule for the week by adding any commitments that you may have (such as work or your class times).
  4. Log out of your email.

Your PrePALS instructor may also give you additional assignments or activities.
