Copying and Pasting Database Citations

Watch Out for These 2 Common Errors in Database Citations

1. Incorrect Capitalization

  • Wrong -  PIERCE, PATRICIA.  “Shakespeare and the Forgotten Heroes.”WARNING ICON
  • Wrong -  PIERCE, Patricia.  “Shakespeare and the Forgotten Heroes.”
  • Wrong  - Pierce, Patricia.  “Shakespeare and the forgotten heroes.”
  • Wrong  - Pierce, Patricia.  “SHAKESPEARE AND THE FORGOTTEN HEROES.”
  • Wrong  - Pierce, Patricia.  “SHAKESPEARE and the Forgotten Heroes.”
  • Right  -  Pierce, Patricia.  “Shakespeare and the Forgotten Heroes.”

2. Pasting Errors

  • Gray Background -  To avoid this, right-click and use the middle or far right Paste Option. On a Mac hover over the citation, and  a little clipboard will appear. Choose "Paste Text Only."

  • Missing Italics - if the italics  revert to regular type, add them back in to
    • name of a book, newspaper, magazine or journal
    • database name 
      • Wrong (Pasted without Italics)

      • Right (Corrected with Italics)
