Adding a Hanging Indent

Hanging Indent

Reference list entries should have a hanging indent of 0.5 inches. This means that the first line of each reference entry is left justified and the following lines are indented 0.5 inch. This makes it possible to easily and visually identify each entry on the page.

Instructions to Add a Hanging Indent in Word

  1. Select the text where you want to add a hanging indent.

  2. Go to Home > Paragraph Settings dialog launcher > then choose Indents and Spacing.

  3. Under Special, select Hanging.

  4. Select OK.
