Finding Information About a Local Company

A good starting point for researching some local companies like Festival Foods or Moka are the "About" pages. You can also look at the way they advertise and market their products on the other pages of their website. Read between the lines and try to sketch out how they gain a competitive advantage over the competition. What strategies do they seem to be using to reach out to consumers?  Many family-owned businesses have websites, as well, but often they are not as extensive as a larger local business with multiple locations. Often the sole purpose of the website is to serve as digital advertising, but again, read between the lines. What information can you gather about the nature of about the business and it's structure?

When You Can't find Enough Information About Your Company

Not enough Information iconIt is possible you will not find enough information on a local company to complete the assignment.

In this case you can look at a larger similar company to yours and make some comparisons. For example:

  • Festival Foods - Whole Foods, Kroger
  • MOKA - Starbucks, Caribou Coffee
  • Matt's Auto Repair - Meineke Car Care, Midas

Follow the process outlined for researching larger companies on the page Researching Companies - The Basics and consider how  their SWOT ,KPIs, strategies, and other factors, would also apply to your smaller, local company.
