Before you begin researching a specific culture or subculture for your speech, start with an explorer's mindset. Start with curiosity. Maybe you've been lucky enough to pursue travel? Maybe you'd like to learn more about a group of which you know little? Maybe you want to learn more about your own ethnicity and ancestry? Whatever your reasoning to pursue a topic for this project, be curious as you gather initial information to gain context.

Use the library and web resources highlighted in the following pages to expand your background knowledge, increase your keyword vocabulary, and guide your future research. Get curious!
