PrePALS courses are intended for students entering Western who would like or need to build foundational skills in technology, math, literacy, writing, science, and navigating college resources. All students will take a Strengths Seminar that touches on these areas. However, PrePALS is designed to go more in depth for students who may have received significant academic support in previous years or who may have encountered difficulty in previous learning situations. PrePALS is not intended for every student who may be returning to college after a long hiatus. These replace the developmental courses previously offered by Learner Support. *PrePALS courses are designed to be free! These courses can be taken for credit for a nominal free and with prior approval, but in most instances, students will work independently with the support of an instructional team in the Learning Commons, and not for a grade.
